Welcome

Opportunity changes everything. At TECH Freire, opportunity looks like a dual enrollment class that sparks a new ambition. A makerspace where an idea becomes something you can hold in your hands. A music studio session that brings a creative melody to life. An internship that turns curiosity into purpose. That’s why we’re here. In partnership with our families, we build meaningful relationships grounded in trust, collaboration, and high expectations for every student. We don’t just help students imagine a different future. We give them every opportunity to build it.

Academics

Our academic approach goes beyond the surface, encouraging students to dive deep into their learning. Students think critically, communicate with impact, tackle complex texts, and then take what they've learned and apply it to real-world situations.

Through dual enrollment (Temple University B4USoar and the Community College of Philadelphia), students earn real college credits while still in high school, getting a head start on their degrees, building confidence in college-level coursework, and saving thousands in future tuition costs.

Our campus features a fully equipped music recording studio and two maker spaces that empower students to turn their ideas into reality. From bandsaws and ShopBots to 3D printers, VR technology, and more, our hands-on tools give students the freedom to explore engineering, design, music production, and other creative fields in real time.

Courses

Professional Prep

Freire Schools believes that learning is most powerful when students can connect classroom knowledge to real-world experiences. Through Freire Forward, our comprehensive college and career readiness initiative, students explore future pathways through career fairs, industry field trips, dual enrollment, internships, mentorship opportunities, extracurricular programs, and our signature Experienceship Program. As the centerpiece of Freire Forward, the paid, three-week Experienceship places students alongside professionals at leading businesses and nonprofit organizations, where they build workplace skills, receive mentorship, and gain meaningful career exposure. We've partnered with organizations including D'Lauro & Rodgers, Inc., T&M Associates, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, and government leaders including State Representative Ben Waxman and Philadelphia City Councilmember Jeffery Young, Jr. Together, these experiences bring the classroom into the community while helping students build the confidence, skills, and professional networks needed to succeed in college, careers, and beyond.

“The Experienceship taught me the fundamentals of finding the career that could best fit me … I’ve met and gained connections with people that will last a lifetime and possible career opportunities after my four years of college.” Hasan LopezTECH Freire Class of 2024, Lincoln University Class of 2028

Student life at TECH Freire blends challenging academics with a wide range of after-school activities to help you grow into exactly the kind of well-rounded student colleges and employers are looking for. Our students have taken international trips to Berlin, Dresden, Costa Rica, and the Galapagos Islands.

“Extracurriculars helped me build bonds with other students and staff. I played basketball, flag football, and track during my time here. Even though I transferred from another school, it made me feel comfortable and like I really belonged.” Wyiana BronsonClass of 2025, Current Arcadia University Student

Commitment to Peace

TECH Freire is a peaceful community. Our highest priority is making sure that students feel safe and engaged in our classrooms and throughout our building, and that each of us has the tools and skills we need to resolve conflict peacefully. We work together as a community to create a peaceful environment in which every student can focus on themselves and their education and feel safe to take the emotional and personal risks necessary for learning. We view conflict as an opportunity for learning, growth, positive change, and peace as a way of life.

Emotional Supports

TECH Freire’s emotional support team provides regular counseling services to students and families in need of therapy. In addition to our in-house licensed professional, TECH Freire partners with local graduate programs in counseling psychology to provide a team of graduate students studying the science of emotional support who work with TECH Freire students under the close direction of the Director of Student and Family Counseling.

Request Support

Peer Mediation

Each year, a select group of Freire students is trained as Peer Mediators, playing a vital role in maintaining our positive school culture. Students and staff can request mediation to resolve conflicts, and every request is reviewed within 24 hours. Guided by trained student mediators, participants work together to find peaceful solutions, strengthen relationships, and build skills for long-term conflict resolution.
